Airsoft for beginners: your first game

You don't need to buy everything before your first game. Rent or borrow a replica, wear sturdy clothes and goggles, and learn the few rules every field shares.

What to bring

For a first game you mainly need protection and clothes you don't mind getting dirty. Most fields rent replicas, and teams often lend gear to new players.
  • ■
    Impact-rated goggles or a full-face mask.
  • ■
Long sleeves, trousers, gloves and boots that support your ankles.
  • ■
Water, food and a change of clothes.
  • ■
Your phone, charged, when the game uses a live map.

Rules every field uses

Call your hits: any BB that touches you or your gear counts. Leave the game area only through the safe zone, with the magazine out. Keep to the minimum engagement distance, and never take your eye protection off on the field.

Find a team

Playing with a team is the fastest way to learn: they explain the field, plan with you and bring you to their next games. Look for teams near you and ask to join; most welcome new players.

On the day

Arrive early for the briefing, where the organizer explains the field, the sides and each round's goal. Stay close to experienced players in your first rounds and ask questions between them.

What to know

Do I need my own replica?

No. Most fields rent replicas and teams often lend one. Try a few before you buy, so you know what suits you.

What if I get hit a lot?

Everyone does in their first games. Call the hit, walk back to respawn and try a different route; you will learn the field quickly.

How does GridStrike help on the day?

When your team or organizer uses GridStrike, you see your teammates and the field's objectives on a live map on your phone, and the replay shows the game afterwards.
